STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE ON HOW TO TACKLE THE SPEAKING PAPER TASK A
STEP 1 – Understand the situation
It is really important for the students to read and understand the given situation. If they do not understand the situation, then they would not be able to proceed with the speaking task. Therefore, students need to read carefully and analyse the situation. Do not forget to underline key words
STEP 2 – Brainstorm Ideas
Brainstorming is a very useful way to gather ideas about a particular topic or group of related topics. It can help us collect and produce a wide range of ideas stemming from a particular topic.
As you brainstorm your ideas, you need to plan and organize your ideas in a systematic and organized way. Jot down at least 3 main points for your ideas in clusters using keywords.
DO NOT WRITE YOUR IDEAS IN COMPLETE SENTENCES! You will tend to read your sentences instead of speaking out your ideas.
Use mind-map, circle map, brace map to organize your ideas. Always remember to have example(s) in each of your point to help with your elaboration.
STEP 3 – Organize ideas
Presenting your ideas in a systematic and organized way will increase the effectiveness of your presentation.

Should smoking be banned in public places? Discuss

People should not be given the privilege to smoke in public places. I have the right to walk down the street or sit in a restaurant and not be a victim of second hand smoke. The 2006 report of the U.S. Surgeon General noted that the only way to protect non-smokers from the dangerous chemicals in second-hand smoke is to eliminate smoking indoors. Thus, smoking in common areas has become a sensitive and large issue when dealing with personal rights, but of course it also affects everybody’s quality of life.

MUET Paper 3 July 2012 Answer Analysis

Justification:
Students missed the word ‘Why’ in the rubric. Referring to paragraph 1 below, the paragraph does not tell why Malaysians remain brand loyal.

Justification:

Paragraph 8, Line 27 shows cosmetics recorded the lowest percentage (28%) but lines 27 and 28 says (Expenditure for staple food items, on the other hand has stayed consistent). This shows that staple food items are the least affected items.
